MFL – French

Our aim is to develop the confidence, competence and enjoyment of each child in French, throughout their time in KS2. The Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) curriculum at our school is designed to progressively develop children’s skills in acquiring, using and applying a growing bank of vocabulary organised around topics. Our pupils are encouraged to use the language they have learnt in their lesson, throughout the week, at home and at school.

Learning another language opens up avenues to explore other cultures and raises awareness of our multilingual and multicultural school and world. In learning a foreign language, cross-curricular links are provided which help reinforce knowledge, skills and understanding developed in other subjects.

We use the Language Angels fully resourced online scheme, to ensure we offer a relevant, broad and ambitious foreign languages curriculum that will inspire and excite our pupils.

Our pupils will develop and demonstrate good progress in the 5 key language skills necessary for learning French:

● Speaking

● Listening

● Reading

● Writing

● Grammar

We aim to ensure that pupils of all abilities develop solid foundations in these key language learning skills – successfully preparing them for the next stage of their language learning journey. The ultimate aim being that pupils will feel willing and able to continue studying languages beyond Key Stage 2.
