Summary of The Ofsted Inspection Report June 2002
This is a good school with improved standards and improved teaching and learning. Standards are above average in Year 2 and in Year 6 pupils achieve well. Teaching and learning is good. Leadership and management is effective. The school is highly regarded by parents and the local community. The school provides good value for money.
Overall standards are above average by the end of Year 2 and 6. The standards in English and Science are well above national averages and Maths is above average. Standards in ICT have been raised to average in Year 2 and above average in Year 6. This has been achieved by improving facilities and teachers' expertise.
A very positive climate has been created for all pupils to learn. Pupils' spiritual, moral, and cultural development is very good. This leads to very good attitudes, high quality relationships and very good behaviour.

There were just two areas highlighted for action:
1. Attendance.
Absence rates were marginally above average at the time of the inspection. This has been addressed by a proactive approach to attendance by rewarding children both termly and yearly for good attendance and by introducing a monthly award for the class with the best attendance. Absence rates for the whole school improved year on year in the time since the inspection.

2.
Reports to Parents. The inspectors asked for more clarity in the reports, giving parents a greater understanding of achievement and attainment. A clearer layout and more concise way of stating pupil progress was introduced and well received by parents. A short written interim report to parents in the Spring Term was also introduced.
